COLOMBIA: Government And ELN Urge UN To Verify Ceasefire
(RTTNews) - The Colombian Government and the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrilla group asked the United Nations Security Council to take part in the supervision of the cease-fire bilateral agreement that will takes effect on Sunday.
The cease-fire will be verified by a joint mechanism made up of Colombian security forces, ELN members, the UN and the Catholic Church, according to a joint statement by the government and the guerrilla.
In the last few days, government officials accused ELN members of connection with recent attacks against Ecopetrol's Caño Limón-Coveñas.
The cease-fire was agreed in Quito. The agreement has an initial term of 102 days counting from Sunday.
