South Africa Jobless Rate Rises Slightly In Q4

(RTTNews) - South Africa's jobless rate increased marginally in the fourth quarter, data from Statistics South Africa showed on Tuesday.

The jobless rate rose to 32.1 percent in the fourth quarter from 31.9 percent in the third quarter.

In the corresponding period last year, the unemployment rate was 32.7 percent.

The number of unemployed people increased to 7.895 million in the fourth quarter from 7.849 million in the previous quarter.

Meanwhile, the employment rate stood at 40.8 percent versus 41.0 percent in the third quarter.

The number of employed persons dropped by 22,000 to 16.723 million in the December quarter from 16.745 million in the September quarter.
