U.K. Permanent Job Placements Rise Moderately In September

(RTTNews) - U.K. permanent job placements increased for the second straight month in September, the Report on Jobs published by Markit and the Recruitment & Employment Confederation showed Friday.

Temporary staff billings also grew in September, albeit at a slower pace. Demand for staff also continued to increase, with the strongest demand for permanent staff from engineering.

The availability of staff to fill permanent roles continued to drop in September. Similarly, temporary/contract staff availability deteriorated at a weaker pace.

Average starting salaries for candidates placed in permanent jobs rose further in September. Meanwhile, temporary staff pay increased at the weakest rate in 40 months.

"There are indications that the gap between pay growth and inflation is narrowing, which could present a threat to sustainable economic growth," REC Director of Policy Tom Hadley, said.

"We hope the government will address this issue in the Autumn Statement with fiscal stimulus," added Hadley.
