ACS Awards Scholarships to Support America’s Military and Their Families
As part of an ongoing commitment to recognize the selfless contributions of America’s military, Affiliated Computer Services, Inc. (NYSE: ACS) today announced a scholarship program designed to help military personnel and their families receive the post-secondary education they deserve.
The newly created ACS Military Scholarship Program is funded through the ACS Philanthropic Foundation, an organization dedicated to furthering education outreach in the communities where our employees live and work. It provides programs that address the needs and advancement of education and technology enrichment to students who otherwise may not have the opportunity to continue their education. The ACS Philanthropic Foundation offers additional scholarships through its partnership with the Winners for Life program.
"It’s a blessing. The ACS scholarship is the extra boost I needed to pay for school,” said Daryl Roberson of Rockdale, Texas, a former Army Specialist and one of 25 recipients who each received a $2,000 scholarship to assist in paying for tuition, fees and books at a college or university. Roberson, who served in Iraq, will attend Central Texas A&M University to study information technology. Other scholarship winners are pursuing careers ranging from nursing to social work to homeland security.
"The creation of the ACS Military Scholarship Program demonstrates our deep gratitude to our military and their families,” said Lora Villarreal, president and chair of the ACS Philanthropic Foundation, and executive vice president and chief people officer of ACS. "By providing scholarships, we are remaining consistent with our philanthropic goal of assisting those who are in the greatest need.”
