Aflac Q1 Profit Tops Estimate

(RTTNews) - Aflac Inc. (AFL) reported net earnings for the first quarter of $732 million or $1.60 per share, compared to $892 million or $1.90 per share for the year-ago quarter.

Excluding items, operating earnings for the first quarter were 774 million or $1.69 per share, compared to $790 million or $1.69 per share in the prior year quarter.

Total revenues for the first quarter fell 9.1% to $5.6 billion from $6.2 billion a year ago.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $1.58 per share on revenue of $5.82 billion for the first quarter.

Looking forward, the company forecasts of $6.06 to $6.40 per share for the full year 2014 and $1.54 to $1.68 per share for the second quarter.

Analysts currently expect the company to earn $1.58 per share for the second quarter and $6.17 per share for the full year 2014.
