AHP Recognizes Top Performing Health Care Fundraising Organizations in FY 2016
WASHINGTON, Nov. 9, 2017 /CNW/ -- The Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP) recently recognized U.S. and Canadian development organizations as high-performing fundraisers in the North American health care industry for FY 2016. The organizations are primarily foundations affiliated with nonprofit hospitals or health systems and were surveyed for AHP's 2017 Report on Giving (FY 2016).
AHP recognizes high performance based on net production returns in the top 75th percentile. For FY 2016, being a high performer means that participating organizations raised more than $13 million in the U.S. and $11.5 million in Canada. In FY 2016, median net fundraising returns by high performers was $23.799 million in the U.S. and $21.265 million in Canada.
High performers tended to employ more direct and indirect fundraising staff than all responding organizations. They engage in capital campaigns more frequently, enabling them to reach more potential donors. As well, an increased level of direct fundraising expenses—all actual costs needed to carry out each solicitation method—tends to positively impact fundraising performance.
The top four health care development organizations in each country by net fundraising revenue are:
United States:
Canada:

A total of 209 U.S. and 34 Canadian institutions submitted data on their FY 2016 philanthropic activities, for response rates of 18.5 and 20.5% percent, respectively.
The Association for Healthcare Philanthropy sponsors the annual Report on Giving to provide key industry benchmarks for health care fundraisers. AHP was established in 1967 and represents nearly 4,500 development professionals at 2,000+ nonprofit hospitals, medical centers, health systems and related facilities internationally.
