Amazon.com Posts Q1 Loss; Sales Up 15% - Quick Facts
(RTTNews) - Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN) reported a first quarter net loss of $57 million or $0.12 per share, compared to net income of $108 million, or $0.23 per share, prior year.
On average, 38 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report a loss per share of $0.13 for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Net sales increased 15% to $22.72 billion in the first quarter, compared with $19.74 billion in first quarter 2014. Excluding the $1.3 billion unfavorable impact from year-over-year changes in foreign exchange rates throughout the quarter, net sales increased 22% compared to first quarter 2014. Analysts expected revenue of $22.39 billion for the quarter.
For the second Quarter 2015, the company expects net sales to be between $20.6 billion and $22.8 billion, or to grow between 7% and 18% compared with second quarter 2014. Analysts expect the company to report second-quarter revenue of $22.12 billion.
