Amazon Results Miss Estimate, Provides Weak Q4 Sales Guidance; Stock Down 7%
(RTTNews) - Online retailer Amazon.com Inc (AMZN) Thursday reported third-quarter net loss of $437 million or $0.95 per share compared with a loss of $41 million or $0.09 per share last year.
On average, 35 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters estimated a loss of $0.74 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Revenues for the quarter were up 20 percent at $20.58 billion compared with $17 billion in the prior year. Forty analysts had a consensus revenue estimate of $20.84 billion for the quarter.
Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, Amazon expects expects revenues of $27.3 billion to $30.3 billion. Analysts expect revenues of $30.89 billion.
