BMC Software Leverages Amazon Web Services to Simplify Deployment and Management of Cloud Environments
Many large enterprises today are extending their service-enabled, highly virtualized and highly automated environments to cloud infrastructure services.
To help customers meet this need, BMC Software (NYSE:BMC) today announced it is leveraging Amazon Web Services to optimize hybrid IT infrastructure deployments via the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2). BMC’s Business Service Management (BSM) platform delivers a unified approach to IT planning, control, compliance, automation and management for extending existing internal IT infrastructures to cloud environments.
"Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides a comprehensive set of infrastructure services that meet the high demands of our customers,” said Terry Wise, director of Business Development for Amazon Web Services. "Together with BMC, we are providing mutual customers with a flexible and scalable way to extend and manage enterprise class solutions to the cloud.”
Tim Grieser, vice president for System Management Software at IDC, said: "Enterprises want the flexibility to leverage existing internal resources and cloud resources as needed to meet changing business needs and reduce capital costs. To be effective, the cloud infrastructure must be managed and controlled in harmony with existing IT infrastructures.”
Working with BMC, IT organizations will be able to extend their internal datacenters to Amazon EC2 via a unified, integrated BSM management solution. Enterprise customers can request computing resources – either internal (physical or virtual) or external from Amazon EC2 – through an integrated self-service portal. Those requests are tracked through BMC’s robust ITIL®-compliant change management system and automatically provisioned and configured in minutes. This self-service interface also supports service de-provisioning and service change requests.
Asset association and tracking of Amazon EC2 resources are integrated with BMC Atrium Configuration Management Database, and configuration compliance is enforced. The integrated solution supports both pre-existing Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) as well as dynamic AMI creation. BMC enables customers to holistically manage physical, virtual and cloud environments, further reducing cost and complexity through an integrated and unified set of management solutions.
"The need for a strong management focus is increasingly important as enterprise organizations leverage external cloud resources to augment their existing infrastructures,” said Kia Behnia, chief technology officer for BMC’s Enterprise Service Management business unit. "Our BSM platform is designed to enable organizations to request, orchestrate and provision capacity across their existing internal IT resources and clouds in minutes.”
Grieser added: "BMC's management solutions support IT process governance while at the same time addressing key cloud management requirements including unified physical and virtual management, provisioning and automation.”
