Canadian Stocks May Struggle Early -- Canadian Commentary
(RTTNews) - Canadian stocks may struggle in the early going Friday, with energy shares in focus due to falling oil prices.
U.S. crude oil was down 75 cents at $101.25, after the Energy Information Agency said that global oil supplies were high.
In corporate news, Progressive Waste Solutions Ltd. (BIN) (BIN.TO) Friday reported a drop in earnings as well as revenues for the first quarter. Earnings, however, were in line with analysts' estimates.
West Fraser Timber Co Ltd (WFT.TO) Thursday reported first-quarter net earnings of C$72 million compared with C$67 million last year.
Federal officials are threatening to cut Telus (T.TO) out of the big wireless spectrum auction, according to the Global and Mail.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index closed Thursday at 14,554.25, up 20.86 points or 0.14 percent. The index scaled an intraday high of 14,584.10 and a low of 14,522.16.
