COSTA MESA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 11, 2005--Ceradyne, Inc. (Company) (Nasdaq:CRDN) announced it received a $2.8 million order for the Company's lightweight ceramic armor for use on a Navy vessel. First of its kind for Ceradyne, the order was placed by the Naval Surface Warfare Center for delivery in late 2005. The ships, which will use the Ceradyne system, are of the LCAC (Landing Craft Air Cushion) type.
Marc King, Ceradyne vice president of armor operations, commented: "I am particularly pleased that the Navy chose Ceradyne as the armor supplier for this ship. The use of state-of-the-art ceramic armor offers the lightest weight, most ballistic-efficient solution for ground, air, and sea applications where reduced weight is often the key consideration in decision making."
Ceradyne develops, manufactures and markets advanced technical ceramic products and components for defense, industrial, automotive/diesel and commercial applications. Additional information about the Company can be found at www.ceradyne.com.
