Cirrus Logic Audio DSPs, Intelligent Room Calibration Software Showcased in New Generation of Consumer Electronics Products Onkyo, Harman Kardon, Samsung and Arcam Among Audio/Video Receiver, Set-Top Box Manufacturers to Incorporate Cirrus Logic Audio Technologies
Amidst the spotlight of 2005's hottest new products, audio digital signal processors (DSPs) from Cirrus Logic Inc. (Nasdaq:CRUS) are taking center stage in some of the latest digital entertainment products, such as audio/video receivers (AVRs) and digital video recorders, from leading global consumer electronics manufacturers.
Cirrus Logic's Intelligent Room Calibration(TM) (IRC) audio software, which is the recipient of a CES Innovations Showcase honoree award, is featured in several AVRs now available in retail stores in the United States. Harman Kardon's powerful new Surround Sound Receiver AVR 335 brings music and movies to life with 7.1-channel surround sound and multiple listening modes, including Dolby(R) Digital EX, DTS(R), DTS Neo:6, DTS-ES and Dolby Pro Logic IIx decoding. The Harman Kardon receiver, which features Cirrus Logic's IRC speaker set-up software, obtains its audio processing mastery from the Cirrus Logic CS49400 32-bit audio DSP.
The Cirrus Logic IRC speaker set-up feature automatically adjusts the timing of sounds to overcome such common household variables consumers face in their living room, such as speakers placed in unequal distances from the listening position. The IRC Room Equalization software also features the ability to correct audio frequencies, properly balancing out disruptions such as expansive tiled floors, mirrors, heavy carpeting, drapery and other architectural factors that can hinder the quality of the audio experience.
IRC speaker set-up software is also featured in Onkyo's TX-SR602/702, another powerful receiver that features 7.1-channel surround sound, 32 DSP modes and Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, DTS, DTS-ES, DTS Neo:6 and Dolby Pro Logic IIx decoding. Cirrus Logic's CS49400 audio DSP also enables the receiver's ability to offer multi-room output, giving users the ability to play two different audio sources in two different rooms simultaneously.
Extending into the digital video recording market, Cirrus Logic's cost-effective 24-bit CS493253 audio DSP is powering Samsung's DirecTV(R) H10 personal video recorder, providing the product with superior multichannel audio processing capabilities along with high-definition broadcasting to supplement the H10's digital video recording features.
Prestigious United Kingdom-based Arcam has also selected Cirrus Logic's CS49400 DSP for its new line of high-end AVR 300 surround-sound receiver, which also features Cirrus Logic's CS8415A 96 kHz digital audio interface receiver.
"We're pleased that leading consumer electronics manufacturers continue to adopt Cirrus Logic audio DSPs into their latest, cutting-edge products," said Warren Rhee, manager of DSP Marketing, Cirrus Logic. "Cirrus Logic is offering a complete portfolio of DSP products for various applications like broadcasting STB/DTV and a full range of AVRs from the low-end to high-end. Unlike many general purpose DSPs, Cirrus Logic audio optimized DSPs are tailored for the various consumer electronics products where superior digital audio processing and support for value-added features, such as Intelligent Room Calibration, are highly prized."
