Cognos Showcases Mobile Solution to BlackBerry Customers at Wireless Enterprise Symposium
Cognos (Nasdaq: COGN; TSX: CSN), the world leader in business
intelligence and performance
management solutions, is showcasing Cognos 8 Go! Mobile at this week’s
Wireless Enterprise Symposium in Orlando. Cognos 8 Go! Mobile is the
industry’s first business intelligence
solution designed specifically for a mobile platform. It brings timely
decision-support information directly to BlackBerry®
users to enable informed decision making and increased productivity for
competitive advantage.
Cognos 8 Go! Mobile is purpose-built for the BlackBerry®
wireless platform from Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX:
RIM). It has a rich mobile-client that allows executives or front-line
mobile workers to use their BlackBerry smartphones to read and securely
interact with the most relevant operational and strategic company
performance information, even while offline, for real-time
decision-making. Cognos 8 Go! Mobile fully leverages the proven
capabilities of BlackBerry and the Cognos 8 BI platform, including
common security and a single report authoring environment, to deliver
timely, personalized and secure information automatically over the air.
Customers have been working with Cognos 8 Go! Mobile in production
environments since February 2007. The solution helps accelerate business
processes by servicing a wide range of mobile worker needs across
industries. Examples of use include:
Providing executives with the means to track sales revenue and key
company performance metrics regardless of location or time zone;
Delivering reports for airline ground crew to track and respond
promptly to lost luggage inquiries;
Sending remote oil rig inspectors maintenance reports in real-time so
they can change scope if required on-site;
Providing retailers with product line inventory tracking capabilities
for sales people to access direct from the shop floor;
Allowing field technicians to prioritize daily customer service jobs
by complexity of the task and severity of the technical problem.
Specific enhancements have been implemented in Cognos 8 Go! Mobile for
BlackBerry customers to take advantage of device-specific client
experiences such as vibration, ringtone and blinking LED when new
reports are available, user or administrator scheduled delivery of
reports, and industry-leading security routines built in and optimized
for BlackBerry smart phones. These types of enhancements optimize how
Cognos 8 BI analysis, reports and metrics information is received and
displayed while maintaining the intuitive interactivity that BlackBerry
users are familiar with.
"Many enterprises are looking for mobile
applications that can provide employees with timely and valuable
business intelligence for a range of areas including sales force
automation, logistics and inventory management,”
said Jeff McDowell, Vice President, Global Alliances, Research In
Motion. "We are pleased to be working with
Cognos to provide a powerful mobile BI solution. Cognos 8 Go! Mobile can
help enterprises realize a significant competitive advantage with its
quick access to, and focus on, key performance information.”
IDC predicts that the mobile workforce will reach more than 850 million
in 2009, representing more than one-quarter of the worldwide workforce.*
According to Forrester Research’s December
2006 report, ‘The State of North American
Enterprise Mobility in 2006’, "mobility
is critical to improving information accuracy, employee productivity,
and customer responsiveness, which is needed in order to be competitive
in today’s business environment.”

"Today’s business
offices are wherever business executives happen to be. More and more key
decisions are being made using data delivered to mobile devices,”
noted Mark Smith, CEO and EVP Research at Ventana Research. "Cognos
8 Go! Mobile puts key company metrics and information search
capabilities at mobile workers’ fingertips,
providing business intelligence to empower speedy, informed
decision-making.”
CRC Health Corporation recently selected Cognos 8 Go! Mobile for
BlackBerry to help speed decision-making for clinicians, clinician
managers and other key stakeholders across the organization. See today’s
related release at: www.cognos.com/news/releases/2007/0508_1.html.
"In the behavioral healthcare field,
clinicians and key decision makers are constantly on the go with little
or no access to a LAN-based computer,” said
Jay Ramiodi, VP and CTO, CRC Health Corporation. "We
needed a solution on a single platform that would integrate traditional
BI reports with current, up-to-date client status indicators or other
key snippets of actionable information. Consequently, staff who are
highly involved in clinical decision-making can proactively respond and
immediately take or recommend appropriate preventative action.” "This version of Cognos 8 Go! Mobile uniquely
addresses the needs of joint BlackBerry and Cognos customers who require
mission-critical BI information delivered directly to their mobile
workforce,” said Leah MacMillan, vice
president of product marketing, Cognos. "It
expands the reach of our proven BI capabilities by empowering employees
to securely monitor the pulse of the business remotely and act on key
business information in an informed and timely manner. The net result is
improved organizational performance for better competitive advantage.” Pricing and Availability:
The solution is available direct from Cognos or its network of resellers
worldwide as a role-based, separately priced add-on option for Cognos 8
BI customers.
