Court Says 'Let It Go' To Woman Suing Disney Over 'Frozen'

(RTTNews) - A federal judge in New Jersey court has dismissed a lawsuit against Walt Disney Co. (DIS) that alleges the animation movie studio of plagiarizing the story of "Frozen."

Last September, Amy Gonzalez, a Peruvian author who writes under pen name Isabella Tanikumi, filed a lawsuit against Disney for copyright infringement worth $250 million. She claimed that Disney plagiarized the story from her autobiography, "Yearnings of the Heart."

The Federal Judge rejected Amy Gonzalez's claims of copyright infringement and said that copyright law protects expressions, not ideas. The themes that both appear in "Frozen" and "Yearnings of the Heart" are expressed in vastly different ways, the Judge noted.

Isabella had claimed that Disney had copied her life story in 18 different ways.

However, Disney's had earlier asked the court to dismiss the "absurd" claims. Disney noted that Amy Gonzalez fails to clarify how Frozen's writers had access to "Yearnings of the Heart," and how the two works are similar.

"Frozen", which is the highest grossing animated movie of all time, was released in 2013 during the holiday season. The movie, which received strong positive reviews from critics, was a massive commercial success, with gross collections of about $1.27 billion worldwide of which $400 million was from the U.S.
