Cypress To Display Industry-Leading Portfolio Of Custom CMOS Image Sensors At VISION 2006 Trade Show In Stuttgart, Germany
Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE:CY) announced today that it will host a series of booth demonstrations highlighting its industry-leading custom CMOS image sensor solutions at the VISION 2006 Show in Stuttgart, Germany from November 7-9, 2006. Cypress will show a wide array of sensors in booth #4.0.601, including: Numerous custom designed sensors, ranging from very small (1 x 1 mm) to very large (1 sensor on an 8-inch wafer) sensors Line and matrix sensors The award-winning LUPA-300 high-speed video graphics array (VGA) sensor A new version of the IBIS5 CMOS image sensor with improved analog-to-digital converter (ADC) performance and a low-cost chip scale packaging option. On Wednesday, November 8, at 4:00 p.m., Wim Wuyts, senior staff applications engineer in the Custom Imaging business unit at Cypress, will present a paper on high-speed CMOS image sensors. The presentation will look at custom image sensor market trends and technologies to achieve the required speeds and sensitivity for both line sensors and matrix sensors. In 2006, Cypress has started more than 15 customer specific CMOS image sensor designs. These designs address applications such as endoscopy, industrial and medical x-ray imaging, star tracking and remote sensing for space, barcode readers, high-speed line sensors and high-speed motion analysis sensors. Cypress has also addressed the trend to have digital LVDS outputs for high-speed sensors with proven custom designs for holographic data storage readers. "As the market leader in custom image sensor design, Cypress is at VISION 2006 to demonstrate its proven track-record of offering full turnkey solutions,” said Tim Baeyens, senior marketing manager in the Custom Imaging business unit at Cypress. "We work closely with our customers to meet their specifications, serving as a one-stop shop for design, test and characterization, design-in support, die and wafer sales, production and product support.” About the LUPA-300 Developed for machine vision and motion analysis applications, the LUPA-300 VGA image sensor features a frame rate of 250 FPS and a fully synchronous snapshot shutter, making it possible to read one image while the next is being acquired and to capture moving objects without distortion. The windowing feature enables the user to read out only regions of interest in the image, increasing the effective frame rate. The imager also features a multiple slope capability to capture scenes with a high contrast ratio without saturating bright areas while maintaining good contrast in shadowed regions. The low-power LUPA-300’s pixels have been designed for high sensitivity and low parasitic light sensitivity and feature an active pixel array format of 640 x 480 pixels with 9.9 µm2 pixel size. About the IBIS5 The IBIS5 is a CMOS image sensor that integrates the functionality of complete analog image acquisition, digitizer and digital signal processing system on a single chip. This 1.3-megapixel (1280 x 1024) CMOS active pixel sensor is dedicated to industrial vision and features both rolling and snapshot shutter. The IBIS5 has a full frame readout time of 36 ms (max. 27.5 fps), and its readout speed can be boosted with a windowed region of interest (ROI) readout. It can capture high dynamic-range scenes using double and multiple slope functionality. About Cypress Cypress solutions perform: consumer, computation, data communications, automotive, industrial, and solar. Leveraging proprietary silicon processes, Cypress's product portfolio includes a broad selection of wired and wireless USB devices, CMOS image sensors, timing solutions, specialty memories, high-bandwidth synchronous and micropower memory products, optical solutions and reconfigurable mixed-signal arrays.
