DeVry University Appoints James Caldwell as President of Colorado Metro
DeVry University has appointed James Caldwell as president of the school’s Colorado Metro. Caldwell brings more than 25 years of higher education management experience to the job, having previously held positions with Sanford-Brown College in St. Louis, Concorde Career College in Denver, and DeVry locations in Colorado, Illinois and Calgary, Canada.
In his new position, Caldwell’s responsibility is to ensure that students thrive and succeed by hiring the most qualified faculty and supervising all metro employees. DeVry University’s Colorado Metro includes the Westminster campus, and the center locations in south Denver and Colorado Springs.
"We’re excited to see a growing interest in DeVry University’s degree programs in business, computer information and networking fields. In Colorado these career areas are showing resiliency during this recession,” said Caldwell. "One of the best ways to increase job security is to earn a bachelor’s degree in a field that supports long-term demand. I look forward to assisting Coloradans achieve their higher education goals.”
Caldwell’s statement refers to the Bureau of Labor Statistics 2008-09 Occupational Outlook Handbook which projects that employment in professional, scientific, and technical services will grow by 28.8 percent and add 2.1 million new jobs by 2016. Employment in computer systems design and related services will grow by 38.3 percent and add nearly one-fourth of all new jobs in professional, scientific, and technical services. Employment growth will be driven by the increasing reliance of businesses on information technology and the continuing importance of maintaining system and network security. Management, scientific, and technical consulting services also will grow at a staggering 78 percent and account for another third of growth in this supersector. Demand for these services will be spurred by the increased use of new technology and computer software and the growing complexity of business.
Caldwell’s career with DeVry spans 15 years and includes various management positions overseeing student finance and operations. His progressive positions include dean of student services and administration, dean of academic operations, western regional director of student finance, and university director of student finance.
"DeVry University and our students in the Colorado Metro will benefit greatly from James’ vision, leadership and commitment to quality education,” said David J. Pauldine, president of DeVry University. "His experience leading initiatives for several DeVry locations and his ability to positively affect DeVry’s student population add yet another great management asset to our Colorado Metro team.”
Caldwell earned a B.A. in political science from Brigham Young University and an M.S. in managerial leadership from National-Louis University.
