Electric Harley-Davidson Would Cost $50k
(RTTNews) - Project LiveWire, motorcycle maker Harley-Davidson's foray into the electric vehicle market, would retail for $50,000, according to the company's President and COO Matt Levatich.
Speaking with the Journal Sentinel, he added that the LiveWire "will be ready for the marketplace when next-generation battery technologies are ready."
Currently, he added the bike would go only half as far as buyers want, while costing ""about 50% more than customers would want to pay."
The current models go zero to 60 MPH in under four seconds, and have a range of fifty miles on three and a half hours of charge time. Top speed is 92 MPH.
"Project LiveWire is just one element in our efforts to preserve and renew the freedom to ride for generations to come," Levitch said earlier in the year when the project was announced.
Harley is now on a nationwide tour with 15 of its LiveWire bikes. The company heads to Europe in 2015.
