Exide Technologies Wins First Nuclear Plant Business from British Energy

    ALPHARETTA, Ga.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 2, 2005--Exide Technologies (NASDAQ: XIDE)(www.exide.com), a global leader in stored electrical-energy solutions, announced today that it has been awarded a battery refurbishment contract from British Energy for its Heysham 2 nuclear power station.
    The contract, Exide's first nuclear plant business with British Energy, calls for the installation of more than 1,300 of the Company's GroE batteries from its Classic(R) line of products during 2005 and 2006. The batteries will be produced at Exide's Industrial Energy plant in Castanheira, Portugal.
