    STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 28, 2005--Fuel-Tech N.V. (Nasdaq: FTEK), a world leader in advanced engineering solutions for the optimization of combustion systems in utility and industrial applications, today announced the appointment of John F. Norris Jr. as Executive Consultant. Mr. Norris' principal role will be to help Fuel Tech penetrate targeted accounts through contacts made during his tenure as a senior utility executive, and to assist in creating additional strategic marketing programs to fit the requirements of the utility industry.
    Mr. Norris brings to Fuel Tech more than 20 years of experience as an engineer, operations manager, and senior officer at two of the largest electric utilities in the United States, American Electric Power (AEP) and Duke Energy Corporation. Most recently, Mr. Norris was with AEP where he served as Senior Vice President of Operations and Technical Services, responsible for operational management of all non-nuclear wholesale assets. Prior to AEP, he served as President and Chief Operating Officer of ABS Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of the American Bureau of Shipping, one of the world's largest ship classification societies establishing and administering rules for vessel design, construction, and maintenance. Prior to that, Mr. Norris spent 17 years at Duke Energy Corporation where he held various management positions, including his most recent positions of Senior Vice President, Duke Energy Corporation; Chairman and CEO, Duke Energy Global Asset Group; and President and CEO, Duke Engineering and Services. Mr. Norris also served 10 years in the United States Air Force as a Fighter Pilot, Instructor Pilot and Flight Examiner, where he was twice awarded with Meritorious Service Medals and Air Force Commendation Medals. Mr. Norris holds a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from North Carolina State University.
