Gartner: Global PC Shipments Down 0.5% In Q3
(RTTNews) - Worldwide PC shipments fell 0.5% year-over-year to 79.4 million units in the third quarter of 2014, preliminary results from market research firm Gartner, Inc. (IT) showed Wednesday.
"Growth in the mature markets was offset by a decline in shipments in emerging markets, similar to what was seen in the second quarter of 2014," said Mikako Kitagawa, principal analyst at Gartner. "Positive results in Western Europe and North America can be a sign of gradual recovery for the PC industry."
China's Lenovo continued to be the world's largest PC vendor in the third quarter with a 19.8% market share, followed by Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ) with 17.9% and Dell with 12.8%. Taiwan's Acer Group took the fourth position with 8.6% market share.
In the U.S., PC shipments rose 4.2% to 16.6 million units in the third quarter. HP continued to be the No. 1 vendor in the U.S., as it accounted for 27.8% of shipments, followed by Dell with 24.1% and Apple, Inc. (AAPL) with 14.3%. Lenovo with 11.5% market share was at the fourth position.
