German Machine Maker LSW Maschinenfabrik Switches to SolidWorks Software; Company Purchases 80 Licenses of SolidWorks after Benchmark Testing Demonstrates 3x to 7x Performance Advantage

LSW Maschinenfabrik GmbH, a German manufacturer ofhigh-end assembly systems for the automotive industry, has purchased80 licenses of SolidWorks(R) CAD software, gaining exponentialperformance improvement for its work with complex parts and largeassemblies.

After thorough benchmark testing, the company, part of the GermanIWKA Group, switched from Autodesk(R) Inventor software to SolidWorks,a decision that benefits engineers in LSW's Bremen headquarters and atits American subsidiary, B&K Corp., in Michigan.

"We've had several discussions within the IWKA Group aboutperformance differences between SolidWorks and Inventor," said HolgerJenning, head of engineering at LSW. "In a benchmark test with complexcasting parts and large assemblies, we documented a performanceimprovement with SolidWorks of three to seven times. This testconvinced us that SolidWorks software was the best choice for ourcompany."

One of SolidWorks software's main advantages proved to be itsspeed in converting solid models into 2D drawings, an important stepin design cycle efficiency already witnessed in other sectors of theIWKA Group. "Because we already have several well-establishedSolidWorks installations in the IWKA Group, we can benefit from theexperiences of our affiliated companies," said Peter Walter, one LSW'smanaging directors. "We definitely made the right decision tostandardize on SolidWorks."

LSW Maschinenfabrik's assembly systems produce engines, cylinderheads, axles, transmissions, steering systems, and other components.

"The more complex the part or assembly, the more critical it is topossess high-performing design software," said Rainer Gawlick,SolidWorks Corporation's vice president of worldwide marketing."SolidWorks Corporation appreciates this important ease-of-use andtime-to-market consideration as more companies are under pressure tomore quickly design sophisticated products for their customers."

LSW Maschinenfabrik works with SolidWorks reseller DPS Softwarefor ongoing software training, implementation, and support.
