Goodrich and Lufthansa Systems Sign Electronic Flight Bag Teaming Agreement
CHARLOTTE, North Carolina, October 16 /PRNewswire/ --
Goodrich Corporation (NYSE: GR) and Lufthansa Systems have entered into a teaming agreement to jointly bring Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) Systems to the marketplace. The system includes Goodrich EFB hardware, which features built-in video surveillance capabilities and Lufthansa's EFB "Skybook" applications software, ground infrastructure and data services. The teaming agreement allows Goodrich to provide end-to-end EFB system solutions that include aircraft integration, certification and aftermarket support services.
"Complementary is the best way to describe the EFB system teaming agreement between our two companies," said Jan Mathiesen, Vice President, Goodrich Sensors and Integrated Systems. "Combining Goodrich EFB hardware and Lufthansa Systems EFB software positions us to lead the way in creating a truly 'paperless cockpit' solution for airline operators," Mathiesen added.
"The partnership with Goodrich enables us to offer our state-of-the-art Airline Operations solutions to the industry on modern hardware. This way SkyBook becomes even more attractive to airlines looking to reduce paper on the flight deck," commented Marc Szepan, Senior Vice President Airline Operations Solutions of Lufthansa Systems.
SkyBook from Lufthansa Systems is designed to streamline information processes in the cockpit, to meet information quality and speed requirements. By providing access to current operational data and other relevant documents, SkyBook facilitates process improvements and substantial cost savings in: training; aircraft maintenance; documentation delivery; distribution; logistics; and fuel costs. SkyBook not only succeeds in reducing the volume of paperwork in airplane cockpits; it also equips airlines with a platform that supports all on-board processes with a series of applications, rendering them nearly paperless.
The avionics-grade Goodrich EFB system features an optically enhanced, high resolution display which provides easy viewing in day or night conditions. The system also uses the latest Intel 1.8GHz Pentium mobile processor with standard 1GB memory to execute applications at fast speeds. Standard EFB connectivity includes ARINC 429 aircraft data bus interface, USB Ethernet and wireless options (802.11 and 2G/3G cellular phone communications) allowing flexible, efficient data uploads and downloads. An integrated video server is also standard. With optional Goodrich video surveillance system cameras, the EFB system provides flight crews with a complete view of the cockpit door and forward galley area to enhance cockpit security and ultimately, overall aircraft safety.
Lufthansa Systems is one of the leading IT service providers for the airline and aviation industries worldwide. Its Airline Operations Solutions division offers a full range of products covering the process chain of airline flight operations including route planning and flight dispatch systems, performance engineering, navigational charts in paper and electronic format, FMS data, and EFB solutions.
