Harman International and Employees Raise $260,000 for Earthquake Relief

Harman International Industries (NYSE:HAR) said today that the Company and its employees have raised more than $260,000 through a month-long initiative to aid the residents of Haiti following a recent earthquake in the island nation. In cooperation with the American Red Cross, Harman established a dedicated web site to process employee contributions which it fully matched in addition to a corporate contribution.

"The scale of these recent events is almost unimaginable and has touched hearts across our team,” said Dinesh C. Paliwal, Harman Chairman, President and CEO. "We are privileged to share the good fortune that so many of us take for granted with the millions who have been affected. Our thoughts and prayers are with the citizens of Haiti and other nations touched by tragedy, and the dedicated relief workers who have rushed to their aid.”

Harman employees across the Americas, Europe and Asia contributed to the initiative. All contributions were designated to the Red Cross International Response fund, providing flexibility for use following similar recent natural disasters in other regions.

Harman has partnered with the Red Cross previously for international relief, conducting a similar employee matching program following the Myanmar cyclone and China earthquake in 2008. Dinesh Paliwal, a resident of Greenwich, CT, was honored by the American Red Cross in 2006 for his fund-raising efforts to aid victims of the southern US hurricanes and Asian tsunami. The Company is based in Stamford, CT.
