L-3 Communications Appoints Michael S. Soimar to President of Combat P

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 5, 2005--L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today that Michael S. Soimar has been appointed president of its Combat Propulsion Systems division. In his new position, Mr. Soimar will be responsible for planning, organizing and managing the development, production and support of five lines of propulsion products; engines, transmissions, turret drives, suspensions and tank components. Mr. Soimar will be based at Combat Propulsion Systems' headquarters in Muskegon, MI.
Prior to his appointment at L-3 Communications, Mr. Soimar served as managing director of General Dynamics Land Systems - Propulsion Systems, which was acquired by L-3 in February 2005. Prior to that Mr. Soimar served as vice president of New Product and Business Development for Rotary Power International (RPI), a developer of stratified charge rotary engines. Mr. Soimar holds a Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Bucharest and completed the studies towards his PhD in internal combustion engines.
"Michael brings over 30 years of experience in the propulsion market to this position," said Charles J. "His technical, management and marketing leadership skills will be utilized to both leverage our current product portfolio and position Combat Propulsion Systems properly for future market growth."
Mr. Soimar started his career as a faculty member of the Technical University of Bucharest where, for several years, he taught Applied Thermodynamics and Propulsion Engineering. He has authored more than 25 technical articles for scientific journals, including three SAE papers and four textbooks, and holds three U.S. patents in engineering related fields.
