Los Angeles Times Names New Managing Editors

LOS ANGELES, July 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The Los Angeles Times today announced two key editorial appointments that will play an integral role as The Times continues to shape its integrated print and online editorial future. John Arthur, presently the paper's page one editor, has been named managing editor/news, and John Montorio, currently the paper's associate editor, has been named managing editor/features.

"John Arthur and John Montorio are exceptional journalists and leaders with impeccable credentials who will help The Times meet the challenges in the days ahead," said James O'Shea, editor of The Times. "These two new dynamic leaders will play a pivotal role in making us a more effective organization while enhancing our relevancy to readers and users in Southern California."

John Arthur joined The Times in 1986 and served as the city editor and managing editor of the Orange County edition. In 1997, Arthur was named one of four managing editors with responsibility for the Valley, Orange County and Ventura editions as well as oversight of the Travel and Sports section and The Times National Edition. Most recently, Arthur served as the editor of the paper's front page.

As the newspaper's associate editor, John Montorio has overseen the creation of numerous new sections, including the recently launched Image, revamped Travel and The Envelope print series, as well as managing the coverage of the newspaper's 125th anniversary and several special news projects paper-wide. Before joining The Times in 2001, Montorio worked for the New York Times where he oversaw the launch of many signature features sections, including The City and Sunday Styles, as well as supervised several departments as associate managing editor.
