MetLife Q4 Profit Tops Estimate

(RTTNews) - Life insurer MetLife, Inc. (MET) reported reported fourth quarter net income of $1.49 billion or $1.30 per share, compared to $877 million or $0.77 per share for the year-ago quarter.

Excluding items, operating earnings for the fourth quarter were $1.58 billion or $1.38 per share, compared to $1.55 billion or $1.37 per share in the prior year quarter.

Total operating revenues for the fourth quarter fell to $18.25 billion from $18.33 billion a year ago.

Premiums, fees & other revenues grew to $13.13 billion from $13.07 billion last year.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $1.36 per share on revenue of $18.12 billion for the fourth quarter. Analyst' estimates typically exclude special items.
