Michael Hackworth, Cirrus Logic Chairman and Co-Founder, and Wife Joan to Receive Honorable Award from Silicon Valley Group

Cirrus Logic (NASDAQ: CRUS) announced that Michael Hackworth, chairman of the Board of Directors and company co-founder, and his wife, Joan, will receive the "Spirit of Silicon Valley Lifetime Achievement Award" today at the Silicon Valley Leadership Group's annual Public Policy Luncheon at the Santa Clara Convention Center.

Hackworth co-founded Cirrus Logic in the Silicon Valley area in 1984 and served as chief executive officer until 1989, when he assumed the role as Board chairman. At Cirrus Logic, Hackworth was widely credited for helping to pioneer the "fabless” semiconductor industry. The Spirit of Silicon Valley Lifetime Achievement Award is presented annually to a business leader and is based on impeccable ethics, business excellence and community engagement.

"Mike and Joan Hackworth are the ‘dynamic duo’ of Silicon Valley,” said Silicon Valley Leadership Group CEO Carl Guardino. "Their generosity, wisdom and assistance come in the form of their talent, time and treasure – and our region is that much stronger because of it."

The Silicon Valley Leadership Group’s annual Public Policy Luncheon is expecting a sold-out capacity audience of nearly 1,300. U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke is the featured speaker at the event, and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger also will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.

"As co-founder of Cirrus Logic, Mike has been a key driver of the company’s many successes, especially in developing the now-common fabless model for semiconductor manufacturing,” said Jason Rhode, president and CEO of Cirrus Logic. "As the Chairman of our Board, Mike has played a key role in driving Cirrus Logic’s mixed-signal focus and our recent growth. We are proud to have him on our team, and we congratulate both he and Joan on receiving this very prestigious award.”

Among his many achievements, Hackworth was named Semiconductor Entrepreneur of the year in 1990 by Ernst & Young, and in 2001 he received the Dr. Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award presented by the Fabless Semiconductor Association. Hackworth has been personally active in a number of Silicon Valley-area community activities, primarily focused on arts and learning, such as the University of Santa Clara and its Markkula Center for Applied Ethics, The Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose and the Montalvo Arts Center. In recognition for his philanthropic efforts, Santa Clara University awarded him an honorary degree of Doctor of Public Service. Joan serves on Santa Clara University’s Board of Fellows and is active in numerous community organizations, including the American Heart Association.
