Microsoft Unveils New Lumia Phone

(RTTNews) - Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) Tuesday unveiled two new smartphones that run on its Windows 10 operating platform, as the software giant strives to revive its beleaguered smartphone business.

The Lumia 950 and 950 XL are the first smartphones phones to run on Windows 10.

Microsoft hopes that millions of Windows 10 PC users will prefer a smartphone that can sync with the PC.

The smartphones feature 20-megapixel PureView cameras with image stabilizers and triple LED natural flash.

The Lumia 950 sports a 5.2-inch display and a hexacore processor, while Lumia 950 XL is a larger smartphone with a 5.7-inch screen and an octa-core processor. Both the phones will retail from November, with Lumia 950 starting at $549 and Lumia 950 XL at $649.

The Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL will compete in the premium smartphone segment which is currently dominated by Apple Inc.'s iPhones. Microsoft smartphones only has a share of less 3 percent worldwide.

Along with the smartphones, Microsoft launche several other products including a 2-in-1 tablet Surface Pro 4, a wearable Microsoft Band, virtual reality device HoloLens, and limited edition Xbox One consoles.

MSFT is currently trading at $46.95, up $0.32 or 0.69%, on the Nasdaq.
