New York City First Deputy Criminal Justice Coordinator Frederico Gebauer Joins Kroll as Managing Director

Kroll, the world’s leading risk consulting company, announced today that Frederico Gebauer, formerly First Deputy Criminal Justice Coordinator for the Office of the Mayor of the City of New York, has joined the firm’s Business Intelligence and Investigations practice as a managing director in its New York office.

Gebauer will supervise a wide variety of assignments including corporate investigations, fraud and detection, due diligence and regulatory issues. In addition, being fluent in Portuguese and proficient in Spanish, he will help Kroll’s New York-based clients manage risks associated with their Latin American operations.

"Increasingly, clients are asking us to assist with cross-border disputes and to help them navigate difficult political environments,” said Robert Brenner, Esq., Vice President of Business Intelligence and Investigations in the Americas. "Fred’s experience as a prosecutor and government administrator together with his deep knowledge of Latin America will be a great asset.”

As First Deputy Criminal Justice Coordinator, Gebauer oversaw the development of multi-agency initiatives, including programs and policies on immigration, firearms enforcement, emergency preparedness, Family Justice Centers, and Gun Courts. He helped conceive and direct Mayor Bloomberg's national campaign against illegal guns, including the creation of "Mayors Against Illegal Guns," a bi-partisan coalition of over 340 mayors, and the development of the nation's first gun offender registration statute. He also helped develop and oversee innovative litigation against corrupt gun dealers in five other states.

A 14 year veteran of the criminal justice system, Gebauer began his career as an assistant district attorney in New York County where, from 1996 – 2003, he investigated and prosecuted cases for crimes including conspiracy, homicide, firearms trafficking, and narcotics sales. During that time, he participated in a two-year investigation resulting in the indictment of a fifty-defendant criminal organization. In 2003, Gebauer was appointed special counsel to the Mayor’s Office of the Criminal Justice Coordinator, and the following year to general counsel and director of the Mayor’s Office of Special Enforcement, where he oversaw all legal affairs and developed a wide spectrum of criminal justice programs, including an initiative to combat large-scale counterfeit businesses in New York City.
