Nortel Selects LSI Advanced PayloadPlus Technology to Deliver Leading-Edge Platforms for Small and Medium-Sized Businesses
MILPITAS, Calif., May 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- LSI Corporation announced today that its Advanced PayloadPlus(TM) technology was selected by Nortel(1) for development of a family of products targeted specifically at the small-to-medium sized business (SMB) segment. The family will deliver enterprise-grade performance at SMB prices by providing superior levels of silicon integration, service convergence, remote service control, and scaleable IT outsourcing for SMB's. Nortel and LSI will demonstrate an SMB solution at Interop 2007 (May 20-25 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas) in the Nortel booth (#1237) and the LSI meeting room (Surf A).
"Nortel and LSI recognize the importance of managed services in the SMB market to satisfy a growing demand for easily managed, high-performance, low-cost routing solutions. The LSI Advanced PayloadPlus technology, combined with our strategic engagements, allows us to offer our customers a complete industry leading solution," said Paul Templeton, president of Business Solutions, Nortel.
The Advanced PayloadPlus technology is a family of software-programmable network processors offering fully integrated, single chip solutions with all the data-path and control-path functions running at wire speed. The Advanced PayloadPlus technology, which forms the centerpiece of the LSI TrueONE(TM) solution, addresses voice, data, storage and video in a scaleable, low-cost platform that can be remotely configured and managed by Service Providers (Wireline/Wireless Telecommunication Companies, Multiple Service Operators, Value Added Resellers, and Alternate Operators) and Enterprise IT Centers. As Nortel deploys solutions, SMB's will be able to easily purchase consolidated services not only from Service Providers but also from third-party Application Service Providers, who will offer innovative services designed for specific needs, such as storage, voice, video, and collaboration capabilities.
"The SMB market is left behind the technology curve, which is why LSI and Nortel have partnered to deliver solutions that meet the specific demands of this very important market sector," said Jeff Richardson, executive vice president, Network and Storage Products Group, LSI. "Multi-service business gateways demand high performance, security and manageability to support converged voice and data environments. LSI and Nortel have leveraged our respective strengths to deliver a solution that services the SMB market at an affordable price."
The LSI and Nortel solution showcase at Interop 2007 will include next generation connectivity, converged communication and networking and a new level of storage services. The Interop back-bone network will be used to simulate a service provider managed network used to interconnect two SMB locations. A demo Network Operations Center (NOC) will be located in the LSI booth where service and network management functionality will be enabled.
