Paradyne Launches Bonded T1/E1 Ethernet Solution; Ethernet Everywhere

Paradyne Launches Bonded T1/E1 Ethernet Solution; Ethernet Everywhere Solution Enables 10 Mbps+ Over T1/E1

    Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

LARGO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 20, 2005--Paradyne (NASDAQ:PDYN), a leading provider of triple play broadband loop carriers (BLCs) and Ethernet access equipment, today launched its next generation family of Ethernet network extenders. These T1 and E1 network extenders (TNE/ENE) let any carrier or enterprise combine T1/E1 circuits into a single "big pipe" using bonded Ethernet technology. Today's limitation of 1.5 Mbps for T1 and 2 Mbps for E1 now can be expanded automatically to a 12 or 16 Mbps service simply by plugging in an additional cable.
Ethernet in the first mile (EFM) is one of the fastest growing markets today. Nearly 90 percent of office buildings are not served by fiber, and businesses using only a single T1 line are facing a bandwidth gap. Paradyne's network extenders bridge this gap by bonding multiple T1 or E1 lines into a single Ethernet pipe.
"Ethernet is the most efficient protocol for IP traffic," said Eric Vallone, director of product planning, Paradyne. "The plug and play TNE/ENE platform maximizes bandwidth performance over existing copper infrastructure while being extremely easy to deploy."
Unlike standard Ethernet, which has a 100-meter distance limitation over copper wire, the eight-port (TNE1584 and ENE2084) and four-port (TNE1544 and ENE2044) network extenders can deliver high-speed Ethernet anywhere you can deliver a T1 or E1 circuit. By law, T1/E1 services are ubiquitously available, so these products can be deployed anywhere.
The TNE/ENE units integrate eight or four T1/E1 bonded Ethernet over copper WAN interfaces with a four-port Ethernet switch, complete with layer 3 and 4 awareness and a full suite of QoS mechanisms built on Paradyne's Multimedia Traffic Management technology.
The TNE/ENE products are also designed to be aggregated into Paradyne's new 4000/12000 series BLC platform, which supports as many as 288 T1/E1 lines.
