PMC-Sierra White Paper Highlights Next-Generation Rate-Agile Serializer/De-serializer (SERDES) Design Requirements

PMC-Sierra (Nasdaq:PMCS), a leading provider of communications and storage semiconductor solutions, released "Requirements for Next-Generation Rate-Agile SERDES,” a white paper that outlines and discusses key requirements such as integration, flexibility, signal integrity, performance, and diagnostic features that system designers should consider when selecting a Serializer/De-serializer (SERDES) solution.

Existing and emerging requirements for next-generation rate-agile SERDES designs are forcing system designers to re-examine their SERDES solutions. For example, providers of Metro and Access networks have new requirements for bandwidth and service convergence, with reduced operating expenses and lower power consumption. Consequently, system designers must develop new line cards that support more density and more varied services.

PMC-Sierra’s innovative SERDES designs, including its Rate-Agile Programmable Transceiver (RAPTR) SERDES detailed in this paper, enable new ways to address these increasingly demanding requirements. RAPTR SERDES technology is available on several PMC-Sierra products, including its new
