Qwest Chairman and CEO Edward A. Mueller Slated to Lead Presidential Telecommunications Advisory Committee

President George W. Bush has announced his intention to appoint Edward A. Mueller, Qwest (NYSE: Q) chairman and CEO, to chair the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC). Since its inception by executive order in 1982, the NSTAC has advised the president and other White House leaders on issues pertaining to the preservation and utilization of the nation’s communications infrastructure, specifically with regard to national security and emergency preparedness (NS/EP). The converged communications environment today is built upon distinct terrestrial, satellite, and wireless systems, offering new possibilities for information sharing, as well as new concerns about security and reliability. As chairman of NSTAC, Mueller will preside over the committee comprised of approximately 30 senior-level executive members from the nation’s top telecommunications, finance, information technology and network service providers. This appointment will not affect Mueller’s leadership role at Qwest. "Qwest has a proud and distinguished history of service on NSTAC,” said Mueller. "I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the President and the nation in this important capacity.” About Qwest Qwest offers a powerful combination of award-winning broadband, video and voice solutions for residential customers, businesses and government agencies.
