RehabCare Names James Martin New Chief Human Resources Officer

RehabCare Group, Inc. (NYSE: RHB) announced today that it has promoted James F. Martin to Senior Vice President, Chief Human Resources (HR) Officer, effective December 1. Martin has served as Vice President, Human Resources since joining RehabCare in 2005 and will now fill the position vacated in October by the former Chief HR Officer. He will serve on RehabCare’s Executive Management Team, reporting to President and Chief Executive Officer John H. Short, Ph.D.

Overseeing the HR Generalist function for RehabCare’s field management staff, Dr. Short said Martin has been an effective leader during some dramatic events in the Company’s recent history. "Jim served as the employee relations point person for our acquisition of Symphony Health Services in 2006, which nearly doubled the size of our employee base,” said Dr. Short, "and he orchestrated responsive action plans during recent natural disasters, most notably Hurricane Katrina, assessing the impact on our people and programs, creating critical communication networks, and deploying essential resources to our field employees.”

Dr. Short said Martin was integral in developing the HR Generalist model at RehabCare, as well as implementing processes to elevate the level of its field management talent. He also served as interim Chief HR Officer for a 15-month period starting in late 2005 during the Company’s search for new senior HR leadership. Going forward, Martin will lead RehabCare’s human resources, compensation and benefits, corporate office administration and campus recruiting efforts.

"I’m confident in Jim’s ability to continue to develop an employee-oriented company culture that’s focused on high performance, continuous improvement, and striking the right balance between employee and company needs,” commented Dr. Short.

Prior to RehabCare, Martin had a 30-year career in employee and labor relations management for several leading global organizations, including Coors Brewing Company, Pepsi Cola Company and Trans World Airlines. Martin holds an MBA from Northwestern University and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois.

With over 25 years experience, St. Louis-based RehabCare (www.rehabcare.com) is a leading provider of rehabilitation program management services in partnership with more than 1,200 hospitals and skilled nursing facilities in 43 states. The company also owns and operates freestanding rehabilitation and long-term acute care hospitals.
