SnapChat With Bold New Redesign
(RTTNews) - Snap Inc. (SNAP) Wednesday unveiled a redesign of its Snapchat app, an attempt to improve its user growth and help its users to discover better content more easily.
The new, simpler design separates content made by friends and content made by publishers. This means that the Chats and Stories from your friends are on the left side of Snapchat, and the Stories from publishers, creators, and the community are on the right.
"This will provide a better way for publishers to distribute and monetize their stories, and a more personal way for friends to communicate and find the content they want to watch," CEO Evan Spiegel wrote in an Axios op-ed.
Snapchat also introduces a new dynamic Friends page. The new Friends page to the left of the camera displays users' friends based on the way they communicate with them.
Snap first announced the overhaul on its third-quarter earnings call, after the company grew its user base just 3% from the prior quarter.
"Separating social from media has allowed us to build the best way to communicate with friends and the best way to watch great content - while addressing many of the problems that plague the Internet today," the company said in a statement.
