Southwest Will Fly To Jamaica, Aruba And Bahamas
(RTTNews) - Southwest Airlines (LUV) announced on Monday that they would soon be offering international flights to major vacation destinations in Caribbean. Starting on July 1 of this year, the domestic carrier will be offering flights to Aruba, Jamaica, and the Bahamas.
"We're here to talk about international flights on Southwest Airlines," said Southwest CEO Gary Kelly at a press conference on Monday. "You're going to get a look at the very first passport stamps our customers will be able to get by flying on Southwest Airlines."
At first, the airline will only fly to those destinations out of Atlanta (Aruba and Montego Bay), Baltimore/Washington (to all three) and from Orlando (Montego Bay and Aruba), however, they plan to add more routes and cities in the future.
A sample July fare from Baltimore to Montego Bay non-stop runs $412 round-trip.
Currently, Southwest Airlines offers flights to both Mexico and the Caribbean through AirTran. According to Kelly, all international AirTran flights will be converted to Southwest Airlines flights by the end of the year.
