Toyota US Sales In July Up 12%

(RTTNews) - Toyota Motor Corp (TM) Friday said its US sales for July rose about 12 percent, as the Japanese automaker recorded double-digit sales gain for Corolla and Camry sedans, with strong demand for RAV4 crossover.

"Rising consumer confidence, coupled with momentum in the marketplace, boosted auto sales in July," said Bill Fay, Toyota division group vice president and general manager. "Led by an all-time record month for RAV4 and double-digit gains for both Camry and Corolla, Toyota was the number one retail brand."

Toyota said its US July sales rose to 215,802 units from 193,394 units last year. The month had 26 selling days against 25 days last year. On a daily selling rate basis, which adjusts for the difference in the number of selling days, July sales increased 7.3 percent.

At its namesake Toyota division, sales rose 10.6 percent to 188,469 units from 170,363 units, while sales at Lexus segment climbed 18.7 percent to 27,333 units from 23,031 units last year.

Car sales at Toyota division rose 7.5 percent to 103,301 units, driven by strong sales of Corolla, Camry sedans, which grew 26.0 and 14.7 percent, respectively. Lexus car division sales jumped 15.3 percent to 15,472 units, as CT, IS and GS sedans grew 51.5, 24.7 and 16.2 percent, respectively.

Truck sales at Toyota division rose 14.7 percent to 85,168 units, on strong sales of crossovers RAV4, Highlander and 4Runner and pickup truck Tundra. All-new RAV4 sales rose over 37 percent, and was its best-ever month. Lexus truck sales improved to 23.4 percent to 11,861 units.

TM is currently trading at $117.75, down $0.24 or 0.20%, on the NYSE.
