TSX Bucks Global Uptrend As Commodities Weigh -- Canadian Commentary

(RTTNews) - Canadian stocks fell Tuesday, as weakness emerged in the energy sector due to falling oil prices.

Markets in the U.S. and elsewhere were higher today after Hillary Clinton's strong debate performance soothed fears of a Trump presidency, but Canada bucked the uptrend.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index was down 61.42 points, or 0.42 percent, to 14,588.04.

Energy stocks lost 1.8 percent, as crude oil tumbled below $45 barrel on doubts over whether OPEC will hammer out a deal to curb supplies.

Amazon has added Toronto and Vancouver to the list of cities where free Prime same-day delivery is available.

Shomi, the streaming platform launched by Rogers and Shaw, will shut down on November 30. Rogers (RCI.B.TO) and Shaw (SJR.B.TO) launched Shomi in November 2014.

Aritzia Inc., the Canadian women's fashion retailer, raised C$400 million ($302 million) in its initial public offering. Shares will start trading in October on Toronto Stock Exchange.
