TSX Slides After Trump Tariffs -- Canadian Commentary
(RTTNews) - Canadian stocks fell Thursday, following Wall Street lower after the Trump Adminstration announced new tariffs.
The TSX Composite Index slide 48.73 points to 15,393.95, the lowest in two weeks.
President Trump said that his administration will impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports next week.
In the banking sector, TD Bank (TD.TO) reported earnings that beat expecations and lifted its dividend.
Bank of Montreal (BMO.TO) is building a campus for 3,500 workers in Toronto.
Husky Energy Inc. (HSE.TO) said it has established a quarterly cash dividend of C$0.075 per common share.
Husky reported earnings of C$665 million in Q4 vs. -C$6 million in the same period last year.
Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, Inc. (VRX, VRX.TO) reported a turnaround to profit in the fourth quarter, reflecting a tax benefit that helped offset lower revenues.
Revenues for the quarter missed analysts' estimates and the company also forecast fiscal 2018 revenues below their expectations.
