TurboTax Issues Refund, Apologizes For Software Changes

(RTTNews) - TurboTax' maker Intuit (INTU) will a issue a $25 refund for customers angered by a more expensive update to the tax-preparation software.

The rebates are for those who used Deluxe to file their 2013 taxes a year ago and were forced to upgrade to TurboTax Premier or Home & Business to file 2014 returns.

TurboTax had removed Schedules C, D, E and F forms from Deluxe, which some long-time customers had relied on to report business income, investment sales and rental property income.

As a result, some users were required to upgrade the version of TurboTax even though their tax situation hadn't changed from last year.

"I deeply regret the anger and distress we have caused those of you affected by this change," TurboTax general manager Sasan Goodarzi wrote in an open letter.

"The reality is we messed up. We made a mistake," Goodzari later told Forbes.

Intuit has a website for customers to claim their refund. https://turbotax.intuit.com/25back
