Verizon Closing Certain Call Centers, Eliminating Jobs
(RTTNews) - Verizon Communication Inc. expects loss of 3200 jobs as part of its consolidation of call centers. As per the current plan, it will close call centers in New York, Maine, Nebraska, Connecticut, and California. The company said the decision followed slow growth in its wireless business.
The job cut will be effective by January.
The wireless carrier said the workers will be offered relocation options so that they can work in other sites. Verizon also plans to provide reimbursement of travel expenses and two day's pay for those who are willing to relocate. Those who have to leave the company will be offered the severance package.
The New York facility of Verizon at Rochester will lose 600 jobs.
New York Governor's spokesperson strongly criticized the move and said, "This is an egregious example of corporate abuse - among the worst we have witnessed during the six years of this administration. Verizon's negligence is astounding and as a result, hard-working New Yorkers will lose their jobs."
Earlier in 2012 and 2014 also, the company had closed a few of their call centers.
