Washington Gas Employees to Weatherize Homes in Prince George's County

WASHINGTON, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- It's time to prepare for winter and the employees of Washington Gas's Fall Community Service Team will be doing just that as they help low-income and senior residents of Prince George's County, Maryland weatherize their homes on October 27, 2007. The program effort is called "Project Weatherization" and it is in its second year of service to communities in the Washington Gas service territory.

"In addition to providing a much needed service, we want to make sure that homeowners have the tools that they need to use their energy wisely," said Roberta Willis Sims, Vice President of Corporate Relations for Washington Gas. "Many people, especially our senior customers are not prepared for the winter and these weatherization measures will help to keep in the heat and block out the cold."

Last year, Project Weatherization prepared nineteen homes in the District of Columbia for the winter season using energy efficient techniques such as caulking and weather-stripping windows and doors, installing low-flow showerheads and faucet aerators, and taping cracked windows. This year the project moves to Maryland to weatherize thirty homes with all of the work being done by Washington Gas employee volunteers.

In what promises to be an ongoing project, Washington Gas has plans to expand Project Weatherization to Virginia next year.

"There are homes all over the service territory that could benefit from this process," added Sims. "The types of energy efficiency measures that will be installed are low-cost, easy-to-do projects that can be done by volunteers."
