Wickes Implements Manugistics Solution to Improve Home Delivery Busine
Business Editors/Technology Writers
BRACKNELL, England--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 29, 2005--Manugistics Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:MANU), a leading global provider of synchronised supply chain and revenue management solutions, has implemented its retail forecasting and replenishment solutions at Wickes Building Supplies, the home improvement products retailer in the United Kingdom (UK).
Following rapid expansion, Wickes, which has 171 stores across Britain and a turnover of approximately GBP 1bn, has been using Manugistics for its in-store business since 1999. Recently the company extended the solution to improve the efficiency of its home delivery business that supplies the in-store showroom conservatories, bedrooms and kitchens direct to homes. The retailer selected Manugistics again to improve forecast accuracy, reduce warehouse stock, improve out-of-stocks and increase customer satisfaction.
"The project is part of a strategic initiative by Manugistics to help retailers in today's hypercompetitive world achieve results by solving their complex supply chain challenges through an intense understanding of their consumers, and by working in collaboration with their suppliers," said Manugistics Head of European Operations Ronald Kubera. "A host of large retailers already use Manugistics software and services including Dixons, Sears, IKEA, Woolworths, McDonalds, The Limited and Albertsons."
Wickes, a DIY (Do It Yourself) retailer, serves customers and tradesmen who undertake general repairs, maintenance and improvement projects for households. Driven by the Easter holiday, the peak demand season for Wickes, it wanted to maximise efficiency of its supply chain operations. The DIY firm chose the Manugistics solution following an extensive assessment, which included sourcing references from prominent UK retailers Dixons and Woolworths in conjunction with talking to retailers in the United States. Manugistics not only provided new forecasting and replenishment solutions for Wickes' home delivery business, but also updated the existing system for the in-store business with the latest forecasting and replenishment tools.
"Making sure the products are on the shelf is an imperative for our company," said Wickes Distribution Director Steve Horne. "Manugistics is already delivering benefits with the delivery of the project in just over three months and within budget."
"We offer a complete solution to retailers, combining best of breed supply chain software with expertise in solving complex supply chain problems, to help them stay one step ahead of customer demand," said Kubera. "Retail is a key area for Manugistics and it is testament to our commitment and ability to the industry that Wickes received positive feedback when it approached our other retail clients."
Wickes will speak on enhancing the supply chain to support retail business growth at Manugistics' enVISION conference in Atlanta, Georgia, 1-4 May 2005. Wickes will join a host of other European firms including Dixons, IKEA, H.J.Heinz Europe and Royal Numico at the event, which will showcase best practices and success stories from demand and supply chain innovators.
