CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 16, 2005--Rockwell Collins, a global provider of aviation electronic and communication solutions, announced it is offsetting its carbon emissions by purchasing 10,000 MWhs of renewable energy annually for three years. 3 Phases Energy Services, a national provider of renewable energy solutions and services, is providing Rockwell Collins with Green-e certified tradable renewable certificates from new wind projects in Iowa and biomass facilities across the nation.
Electricity production is the leading cause of industrial air pollution in the United States. Air pollution comes in the form of smog, soot, acid rain, carbon dioxide, mercury and particulate matter. Rockwell Collins' renewable energy commitment prevents the emission of 13,800,000 pounds of carbon dioxide, a key greenhouse gas, annually. This purchase will have the climate impact equivalent of taking 1,205 cars off the road for one year or planting 1,863 acres of trees.
"Rockwell Collins is committed to environmental sustainability and recognizes that this renewable energy purchase is an innovative and effective way to reduce the company's greenhouse gas emissions," said Rockwell Collins Chairman, President and CEO Clay Jones.
Through this purchase, Rockwell Collins joins America's leaders in green power purchasing and becomes one of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's acclaimed Green Power Partners. "Rockwell Collins has shown great environmental leadership with its purchase and we hope that other corporations in this industry will follow their example," said Kurt Johnson, director of the U.S. EPA Green Power Partnership. Rockwell Collins' green power commitment is only a small part of its sustainability portfolio. The company has implemented a suite of environmental and corporate social responsibility initiatives.
In operation since 1994, 3 Phases is committed to promoting and implementing renewable energy solutions and services for businesses, utilities, governments and institutions through retail and wholesale sales of Green Certificates, green pricing support services for utilities, green direct access renewable electricity, and onsite efficiency and solar photovoltaic installation.
