Malaysia Retail Sales Growth Slowest In 11 Months
(RTTNews) - Malaysia's retail sales expanded at the weakest pace in nearly a year in December, data from the statistical office showed on Wednesday.
The value of retail sales logged an annual growth of 5.4 percent in December, slower than the 5.8 percent gain in November.
Further, this was the weakest growth since January, when sales had risen 2.6 percent.
Retail sales at non-specialized stores grew 5.4 percent from last year, and sales of other goods in specialized stores advanced by 7.0 percent.
Meanwhile, wholesale trade rose at a faster pace of 5.7 percent year-on-year in December, following November's 4.7 percent increase. Sales of motor vehicles were 6.9 percent higher at the end of the year.
During the year 2024, total retail sales climbed 4.2 percent compared to 2023, and wholesale trade advanced by 5.3 percent.
