Akamai Strengthens Public Sector Initiatives with Leadership Appointments and Move to New Operations Center
-- Former Department of Defense official to lead Akamai Public Sector team

Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the leading globalservice provider for accelerating content and business processesonline, announced today key leadership appointments to its publicsector organization based in Reston, Virginia. Spurred by continuedgrowth in its federal, state, and local government agency customerbase, Akamai also announced today that it has more than doubled thesize of its public sector operations center, moving to a new locationin Reston. The Company's new public sector offices will feature astate-of-the-art Network Operations Command Center (NOCC) to monitorInternet traffic patterns, congestion points, and potential maliciousactivity in support of its government customers.
Leadership Appointments
Betsy Appleby, who joined Akamai at the beginning of 2005, hasbeen promoted to the role of Vice President, Akamai Public Sector. Inher new role, Ms. Appleby will run Akamai's public sector salesorganization and oversee all public sector operations. Ms. Applebybrings more than 15 years of public service experience and leadershipat the Department of Defense (DoD) in IT acquisition and programmanagement. Ms. Appleby reports directly to Robert Hughes, executivevice president of Global Sales, Services and Marketing at Akamai.

Betsy brings to Akamai an extensivebackground in working successfully for and with government agencies,including her experience in leading large teams and complex programsin the Department of Defense. Before joining Akamai, Ms. Appleby served as the DoD ProgramManager for NetCentric Enterprise Services (NCES), focusing onenabling network-centric operations and warfare. Ms. Appleby was alsoresponsible for the design and award of a commercially managed servicepilot for Next Generation Collaboration Services, an initiative thatwas unprecedented in the DoD for maximizing the capabilities ofnetwork technologies while reducing the footprint and administrationof local resources. Prior to these roles, Ms. Appleby led Public KeyEnabling efforts for the DoD, where she successfully developed andleveraged enterprise solutions to meet the information assurancerequirements within the Combatant Commands, Services, and Agencies.
Also new to Akamai's Public Sector team is Fran Trentley, whojoins as Director of Operations and Delivery. Mr. Trentley, a retiredArmy Lieutenant Colonel, most recently served at the White HouseCommunications Agency as Chief Information Officer where he ledefforts to modernize communications technology in support ofPresidential travel missions. As Director of Operations and Deliveryfor Akamai Public Sector he will be responsible for overseeingAkamai's managed services offerings within the government.

Akamai Expands Presence in Public Sector
With a doubling in size of its new Reston-based operations center,Akamai's re-location reflects the Company's success in providing ondemand managed services for government agencies to ensure theircontinuity of operations (COOP).

Modeled after Akamai's main NOCC at its Cambridge, Massachusettsheadquarters, the extension of similar monitoring capabilities in itspublic sector office will provide unique insight into overall Internetactivity, demonstrating the value of Akamai's global platform toensure superior content and application delivery and security, whilesimplifying e-government infrastructure management.
Government agencies that currently rely on Akamai's content andapplication delivery services include the Federal Emergency ManagementAgency, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S.Department of Defense, the U.S. Department of Labor, the U.S. Food andDrug Administration and the U.S. Geological Survey's EarthquakeHazards Program, among others.
