Avaya one-X Quick Edition Brings Intelligent IP Communications to Very Small Businesses and Small Branches of Enterprises
BASKING RIDGE, N.J., March 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Avaya, Inc. , a leading global provider of business communications applications, systems and services, is making it easier for small businesses and small branches of enterprises to migrate to Internet Protocol (IP) telephony. Avaya one-X(TM) Quick Edition is an innovative Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)-based peer-to-peer solution that is simple to set up and use.
All the software is in the phone, with no need for a communications server or advanced installation skills. Simply plug the IP phones into the Local Area Network (LAN). The phones automatically "discover" each other, start-up their features, and provide back-up for one another. In minutes users have access to the most commonly used telephony applications, including voicemail, conferencing and auto-attendant. As an office grows, new employees can be added to the system by simply adding a new phone.
"A solution like this was long overdue from a tier-one IP telephony vendor, it has the potential to create a major impact in both the small branch office and very small business marketplace," said Frank Dzubeck, president, Communications Network Architects, Inc. "This is an attractive alternative for small businesses who may have thought that IP telephony was still too costly, insecure or intimidating to evaluate in 2006."
With Avaya one-X Quick Edition, Avaya also introduces the Avaya one-X user experience. Avaya one-X products provide intelligent access to the Avaya user experience, with capabilities that meet the user's unique business needs. In the case of Avaya one-X Quick Edition, users get the ease of use and simplified installation that small offices demand.
Technology from Avaya's 2005 acquisition of Nimcat Networks was used in designing Avaya one-X Quick Edition. The solution meets the needs of small offices by providing a select group of popular communication features and functionality, without requiring detailed technical knowledge and expertise. It is ideally suited for very small business and standalone branch offices with less than 20 phones. In addition to Avaya IP phones, the solution offers a small gateway to gain access to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).
"Avaya one-X Quick Edition is an excellent option for North America's 7.2 million small offices and branches because it is easy to use and manage," said Geoffrey Baird, Avaya vice president and general manager, Communication Appliances Division. "Avaya is able to extend the benefits of intelligent communications to an expanded group of customers, who can take advantage efficient, flexible IP telephony, with growth paths that can be adapted to their business needs."
The distributed nature of peer-to-peer technology provides business continuity advantages by eliminating a single point of telephony failure. The phones also automatically back up one another's voice mail, ensuring availability.
Administration is easy, too. A standard secure web browser enables users or system administrators to manage the phones either locally or remotely. The user interface makes it simple to navigate options and features.
CADParts & Consulting L.L.C. chose Avaya one-X Quick Edition to support the business communications needs of its employees. CADParts provides outsourcing services for all aspects of electronics design and development for high-tech equipment manufacturers.
"Avaya one-X Quick Edition is a perfect fit for a business of our size," said Don Beane, president, CADParts. "The phones were easy to install, and administering the system over the web is also working out well for us. Since we only need a data network, the system is helping us reduce wiring, hardware and administration expenses while providing a scalable architecture that supports our future plans."
The solution offers the flexibility to migrate to more advanced Avaya IP solutions if business needs change or functionality requirements outgrow the capabilities of Avaya one-X Quick Edition. Businesses can keep the phones and upgrade the software, providing investment protection.
"Small businesses today demand the same benefits from technology as their larger competitors," said Bryan Cohen, a senior CDW telephony engineer who designs and recommends IP solutions. "Through innovation and competitive pricing, Avaya one-X Quick Edition delivers big-business functionality and simplicity on a small business budget. One-X customers will appreciate the ability to upgrade at their own pace without risking their investments."
Avaya one-X Quick Edition is available in North America through Avaya and its authorized BusinessPartners. Online retailers, including CDW and Zones, will also offer the system to customers.
"We think Avaya one-X Quick Edition will be a natural for our small business customers, who enjoy the flexibility of plug-and-play, do-it-yourself technology solutions," said Christina Corley, Executive VP of Operations & Merchandising, Zones. "IP telephony is generating interest in businesses of all sizes, and the new Avaya system provides compelling advantages for small offices."
The list price per phone ranges from $485 to $585. The price includes the IP phone with embedded software. A small PSTN gateway that supports up to 4 analog trunks is also available to connect the IP phones to the PSTN.
