CA Names Alan F. Nugent to Lead Unicenter Business Unit
ISLANDIA, N.Y., March 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Computer Associates International, Inc. today named former Novell chief technology officer Alan F. Nugent as senior vice president and general manager of CA's Unicenter business unit, effective April 8. He will report to Russell M. Artzt, CA's executive vice president of products.
"We shortly will put in place a new business unit structure focused on fostering greater accountability to the business and to customer needs, as well as giving CA the ability to be more responsive to the changing dynamics of the marketplace. "Alan has more than 25 years of experience in managing and engineering strategic technology direction focused on the end user's experience. His background will be crucial to his role in leading CA's largest business unit."

Most recently, Nugent was senior vice president and CTO of Novell, Inc., a leading provider of infrastructure software and services, where he was the innovator behind the company's moves into open source and identity-driven solutions. Prior to joining Novell, Inc., he was executive vice president, CTO, and CIO of Vectant, Inc., responsible for all technology design, acquisition, and deployment for all of the technology company's business units, as well as for all internal support systems and infrastructure in the U.S. and Japan.
Nugent was chief technologist and chief software architect for BellSouth Corporation where he was a key contributor on a wide variety of technology issues, including the Internet and eCommerce, enterprise application architecture and integration, software engineering process and data delivery products and services (xSP), among others.
He also served as senior vice president, CTO, and CIO at American Re-Insurance Company and began his 25-year career at Hewlett-Packard Company.
