China Fines P&G For Crest Tooth Whitening Claims
(RTTNews) - Chinese authorities have slapped a fine of about $1 million on consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble Co. (PG) citing false advertising claims for its Crest toothpaste.
Chinese regulators alleged that P&G overstated the effects of Crest toothpaste in advertisements and also used software to make the teeth look more whiter.
According to Chinese media, the fine of 6.03 million yuan or $963,000 is the biggest fine of its kind on record.
Meanwhile, the company reportedly said it had pulled of the advertisement in the middle of 2014. P&G's Crest is competing fiercely in one of the biggest consumer markets in the world.
