Citi Receives Subpoena From U.S. Attorney In Connection With FIFA Probe

(RTTNews) - Citigroup Inc. (C) disclosed in its Form 10-K regulatory filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that Citibank has received a subpoena from the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York in connection with investigation of alleged bribery, corruption and money laundering associated with the global soccer's governing body Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), and the potential involvement of financial institutions in that activity.

Citi noted that the subpoena requests information relating to, among other things, banking relationships and transactions at Citibank and its affiliates associated with certain individuals and entities identified as having had involvement with the alleged corrupt conduct.

Citi said it is cooperating with the authorities in this matter.

U.S. and Swiss authorities are probing FIFA for alleged bribery in the awarding of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups to Russia and Qatar.

On Friday, FIFA announced that Gianni Infantino has been elected as its President for the remainder of the current term of office (until 2019) by the Extraordinary FIFA Congress held in Zurich. He was elected as the ninth FIFA President after the second ballot with 115 of 207 total votes.
